The Habits of Jesus

Surveys tell us:
63% of Americans say they’re Christians
But only about 4% live as disciples whose faith shapes everyday decisions

When a Rabbi invited someone to follow him, it meant:
- Come be with me
- Watch how I live
- Learn how I pray
- Learn how I handle people
- Learn how I rest
- Learn how I obey God
Luke 6:40 (NIV):
A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like his teacher.
Matthew 11:28–30 (NIV)
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.
Transformation doesn’t come from trying harder.
It comes from learning a new way to live.
WHY WE FAIL — THREE INSUFFICIENT SOLUTIONS
1. Willpower Isn’t Enough
2. More Bible Study Isn’t Enough
3. An Encounter With God Isn’t Enough
THE REAL PROBLEM: SIN
- Sin done by us
- Sin done to us
- Sin done around us
The Greek word for salvation—sozo—means saved and healed.
THE WAY FORWARD — HOW JESUS ACTUALLY TRANSFORMS US
1. Jesus Taught — Recalibrating the Mind
2. Jesus Lived in Community
3. Jesus Encouraged Practice(s)
4. Jesus Gave Us the Holy Spirit
John 16:7 (NIV):
“It is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you.”
Jesus doesn’t just want to forgive you—He wants to form you.
